Quattro Mani 2006 – Montepulicano d’Abruzzo

Something about those red italian wines get me every time.  Maybe its the purple tooth look that reminds me so much of my time over there, or maybe its the lingering dryness they so often produce on the palette.  This is one of my favorites, and at a more than fair price of $8-$10 you can’t go wrong here.

label_quattroMani According to WIne Spectator: 86 Points. A velvety young red, with light barley aromas and flavors and some blackberry pie character. Full, soft and round, with lots of fruit. Drink now. 45,000 cases made.

According to Sean O’Connor: This wine has a pretty good story, which makes it even better.  An Italian wine baron, Paolo Domeneghetti has lined up four distinctly different wine makers to create the quintessential wines from their particular region and this is the first offering, from Velenosi of Abruzzo. While I haven’t seen any of the other varietals on the shelves at local markets, this wine is worth checking out – one of the best everyday reds I’ve had – its dry, its italian, and its relatively complex for such a young wine.
