Hestia Cellars 2005 Merlot

Oct 17th, 2008 | By Sean O'Connor | Category: Wine of the Week

I think this might be the first Merlot to make the wine of the week column, and its well made Washington wine.

image I’m sure that Hestia has as great a story as they do wine and branding (great logo by the way), but I just couldn’t find it.  According to their about us page on the Hestia website, they source fantastic grapes from the Horse Heaven Hills of Washington and use old world techniques like gravity flow and finish their wines without filtering or fining.   Their website also proudly pronounces scores of 89-90 from the Emperor, but there are no details about the people behind the wine.

To me making great wine is about three things. 1 people, 2 place, and 3 process.  It takes all three.

The 05 Merlot is one of their first three commercial releases, and I look forward to more great small batch wines from the folks at Hestia in Carnation, Washington.

New wines to try each month
